It was a rainy, humid day. Didn't rain all day. More in the morning. A shower off and on all day though. Some guys were working on the roof though, putting new shingles on one part of the back end.
Last night I turned the heater on in the bathroom for a second and noticed the fan didn't come on. I looked up and could see the elements getting real hot and red so I shut it off real quick. It smelled as if something was burning. I got scared and watched it for a while. It cooled down and was okay. So I put a manintenance slip in the office this morning. Mark came in later in the morning to check it put. Itt seemed to work when he tried it but he took it apart and vacuumed the dust off of it and took all the numbers off the motor so he could get it in case it happens again.. I won't trust it now and will be nervous every time I want heat in the bathroom. The heater is on the ceiling.
I'm still trying to catch up on things. I got rid of one more item today. I advertised my Intelliwriter Typewriter for free on Craigslist. Some guy down the street came and got it. Another guy is coming on Saturday to pick up my old GE Help CB radio. That thing is 35 years old! And still works! I used to take it with me when I traveled years ago and listen to the truckers.
I have another guy coming in a week or two to get that Cobalt Blue Bud Vase that I almost sold for $1. He's paying $20 for it! They sell for $35 on Ebay but I wasn't going to get too greedy. It's better to get rid of it. At least I'm getting more for it now. This guy lives out near Rochester but travels and will be coming through to Cooperstown. His wife collects Fiesta Ware and has been looking for that particular bud vase for a long time.
Another person wanted my Paper Shredder but I haven't heard from her. I'm slowly clearing things out anyway.
With this hurricane coming up the coast this weekend I tiold my Granddaughter she really should not be traveling. She had planned on coming up to NY again with my daughter and the boys. I guess they were going to go visit little Ginny's father in herkimer while Vanessa went to her friend's baby's party in Cold Brook. It sure isn't worth coming if she gets stuck in flooded areas. It sounds like a bad one. vanessa's grandparents are right near the water down there in Exmore, VA. . I talked to her and she said she don't think they will be leaving. Boy! I would be getting away from there and inland. Vanessa don't have to worry too much. She's inland and near DC. But still could get flooded.
The maintenance man was telling me that the woodchuck has dug such a large hole out back that is close to the back door that he might have to trap it and move it to another location. I'd feel sorry for it. They have been around here for a long time. Maybe he could just plug up that entrance. The poor thing would have to start all over again building a winter den and it's getting late in the season for them. There's a young one here also that hasn't gotten fat enough yet. I think it lives in there with it's mom. But I do see the big fat mom coming out of the woods sometimes and she runs down this way. She's probably the one that dug that hole.
So that's all for now.
My sister, Carol, made it home at 2:30 yesterday and went right to work. Then she passed out according to her daughter. I haven't heard from Carol yet but glad she made it home safe.
My brother, Rich, is still recuperating from the weekend. He lost his voice from all the talking. Ha!
Take care everyone and stay safe this weekend if you are in the path of the hurricane.
