February 12, 2010 Bones Set In Wrist

I went to the doctor today. He gave me Novocaine in my wrist before he pulled hard on my hand to get the bones back in place. The largest bone was fractured and out of place. The Novocaine hurt worst than the pulling and twisting but of course it was numb by then. He gave me four shots and very slow. It felt like someone had a vice grip on my wrist. Then he put a new cast on. I don't like that it is covering my elbow now. I was using that elbow to push on the rail next to my toilet to get up. I can't get up by pushing with only one hand. I haven't tried yet. I've been using a bedpan to pee in . But in the morning I will have to get on that toilet somehow.Maybe if I pad that rail as much as I can I will be able to push on it with the cast. If it doesn't work I am going to ask the landlord if he will put a handicap toilet in. They are taller. Then I'll put the 5 inch riser seat on that and I should have no problem getting off.
They took x-rays after the new cast was on to see if the bones were sitting straight. They were. I was glad of that because the only other alternative was surgery. I sure didn't want any of that !
I have to go back in three weeks for x-rays to see if it is healing. You might know I have to be getting more radiation in my body. Seems I just can't get away from it.
It will take at least six weeks with a cast on. Hope it goes by fast.
I am doing pretty good typing on here but it takes me twice as long.
My sister had to fill out the paperwork for me today but I signed with my left hand the best I could. Looks terrible but I guess after six weeks it might be a lot better.
I'm not sure what help I might need. I think I can do laundry with one hand and take the garbage down to the trash room okay. It's cutting with scissors that is hard when I want to open something.The scissors don't seem to want to cut with the left hand. But I did manage to make the scrambled eggs in the morning and butter my home made toast. It's a little messy but okay. Still won't be able to peel an apple. I did manage to get one cut up for the deer tonight.They were all out around 6 pm and two of the foxes were out there at the same time. At least I can still enjoy watching them.
